On 22 July 2024, the University of Cambridge, Magdalene College, has elected Professor Leighton to an Honorary Fellowship.
The Professor and his wife went to Cambridge where his admission as an Honorary Fellow took place in the College Chapel prior to a service of Choral Evensong. In the chapel, citation (Figure 2) was read out by the president of the College, and then the Master inducted him as Honorary Fellow through a declaration in Latin. The Order of Service contained both the citation and a history of Honorary Fellowships in the College (Figure 3).
The College flag is flown both when the Fellow is elected, and on the day of his/her Admission to the Fellowship. It is also flown at half mast when the Fellow passes away.
The Service was followed by the Feast of St Mary Magdalene (Figure 4).
These Fellowships have been awarded in recognition of wider contributions to Society, as described in the image from the Order of Service.
University College London (UCL) also elected Professor Leighton to be an Honorary Professor of UCL.
The Professor is in discussion with both institutions on what lectures he will give to their researchers and students.
